Kate Knapp Lengyel, J.D., M.S., LPC
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Sonoma State University in Northern California. I then completed my Masters of Science in counseling at the University of North Texas. I completed my Juris Doctorate at Texas Wesleyan School of Law (NKA Texas A&M School of Law). I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been working in a variety of settings within the counseling field since 2004 and I have been in private practice since 2007. I also practiced law in Olympia, WA from 2013-2015 along with maintaining my counseling practice. I specialized in family law, parent coaching, and acting as a guardian ad litem in family law cases. Prior to that I worked in psychiatric and medical emergency rooms conducting mental health assessments and providing crisis counseling. I have worked with incarerated adult and juvenile offenders in Texas and Louisiana. I was a crisis counselor with Denton county mental health services and provided expert court testimony for mental health hearings. I also worked at Green Oaks Behavioral Health in Dallas, TX as a Crisis Clinician, Case Manager, and Intake Specialist.
I am dedicated to providing clients with the most effective counseling methods to meet their needs and unleash their potential. I focus on present-centered methods that aid clients in becoming aware of their current choices. I believe that therapy is a necessary tool to discovering one's self at the various stages of life and maturity. Results and positive intervention are my goal in the therapeutic process. I provide brief therapy for majority of clients, although some clients may need more time to achieve the goals they set out for themselves. I offer specialized therapy for children & adolescents, parenting, coparenting, divorce, weight loss, anger management, severe mental illness, and substance abuse.
My strengths are my ability to listen, understand, and walk with my clients through this process. I am honest and up-front with my clients. I value the uniqueness and genuineness of each person I meet with and do not pass judgment on the choices my clients have made. My clients have reported learning a new, positive way to view the world including increased satisfaction with their relationships, their careers, and themselves.
